Full implementation of the Water Proofing Adelaide strategy will help ensure Adelaide has safe and reliable water supplies to 2025 and beyond. However, the long term future is not without some unknowns, particularly in relation to the impacts of climate change.
Prolonged drought in the Mount Lofty Ranges could lead to a demand for water that exceeds the current amount allocated. Similarly prolonged drought across the Murray-Darling Basin could potentially lead to reduced water allocations from the River and/or increases in river salinity to unacceptable levels.
We therefore face the ongoing challenge of finding ways to supplement our water supplies, either temporarily or permanently, to secure our longer-term future.
