On average, the Adelaide Hills catchments provide about 60% of Adelaide’s mains water supply. Water from the catchments is also used to support agriculture, as well as some industry.
In addition, the significant biodiversity of the Adelaide Hills relies on the creeks and streams for survival.
Resource allocation between these competing users presents a challenge for the State.
Cox Creek Nutrient Mitigation Program – a collaborative project between SA Water, the Adelaide and Mount Lofty Ranges Natural Resources Management Board and the Environment Protection Authority – is finding sustainable options to improve water quality in the Cox Creek Catchment. The project includes this $1.5 million Woodhouse wetland and sedimentation basin project which helps manage the quality of water flowing into the local catchment.
