A leakage reduction program has been introduced by SA Water. The State’s leakage rate is now recognised as one of the lowest in the world. A meter replacement program is also providing more accurate data for householders and SA Water.

Meeting the Challenge

Strategy 38: Further opportunities to reduce leakage in the reticulation system will be assessed on a triple bottom line basis (social, economic and environmental) and will result in further water savings.
Completion date: 2008
Lead agency: SA Water |
Reports, progress and links:
Opportunities to reduce leakage in the reticulation system will be assessed on a triple bottom line basis (social, economic and environmental) and will result in further water savings. There are two ongoing initiatives; development of a leakage measurement (Infrastructure Leakage Index) and; active leak detection in the metropolitan Adelaide. A trial for leak detection is planned and investigations will continue.

Strategy 39: Emerging technologies will be monitored as they become available, including chemical films to reduce evaporation losses from reservoirs and new techniques to improve leakage detection.
Completion date: Ongoing
Lead agency: SA Water |
Reports, progress and links:
Ongoing emerging technologies will be monitored as they become available, including chemical films to reduce evaporation losses from reservoirs and new techniques to improve leakage detection.
This is an on-going function for SA Water. Leak detection technologies are being pursued in conjunction with Strategy 38. |
