The National Water Initiative has been set up to build on earlier institutional and market reforms. It advances the need to balance ways that mutually enhance social, economic and environmental outcomes through reform of water markets, regulation, resource management, accounting and pricing.

Strategy 40: The SA Government will encourage consumers to voluntarily contribute to a scheme that funds projects which reuse water for purposes other than drinking water (e.g. irrigation). ‘Eco-Water’ could be used to reduce Adelaide’s draw on the River Murray and Adelaide Hills catchments.

The concept of Eco-Water is being tested in the latest customer service survey being undertaken for SA Water. The survey response will be factored into the development of the final concept.
