While projects are in the pipeline to expand recycled water opportunities in the Northern Adelaide plains region, other opportunities exist between private and government sectors to explore new schemes to ease the burden on our rivers and groundwater.
Meeting the Challenge

Strategy 27: Opportunities to expand the use of stormwater and recycled water resources as alternatives to using rivers and groundwater will be explored for primary production.
Completion date: Ongoing
Lead agency: SA Water |
Reports, progress and links:
The recently announced Virginia Pipeline Extension Scheme focuses on primary production (see Strategy 12).
Water Proofing the South is a localised integrated water resource management strategy based in the City of Onkaparinga (also see Strategy 55). The strategy seeks to substitute ‘fit-for-purpose’ alternative water sources such as recycled water and stormwater for traditional sources such mains drinking water and groundwater so that over all water use in the region is sustainable; economically, environmentally and socially.
One of the main components of the project is the expansion of the Willunga Basin Water Company network to transfer greater volumes of recycled water from Christies Beach Wastewater Treatment Plant for viticulture. |
